per a fer xalets de luxe

i plantar un camp de golf.

Les fadrines moixentines

totes van de cinc en cinc.

L’una li diu a l’altra:

— ¡Que ganes de nóvio tinc!

The single women of Moixent

go five at a time.

One of them tells to the other one:

— I feel like to have a groom!

 

Pepiqueta, guapeta,

fa botifarres.

A pesseta la guitza,

totes cuca(d)es.

I sa mare li deia:

“¡Monyo sorongo!,

el tapó de la bassa

serà el teu nóvio”.

Pepiqueta, nice,

makes sausages,

each one, one peseta…

all of them with worms.

And her mother told her:

“Stupid, silly…

the stopper of the pool

will be your boyfriend.”

 

Quan passes per lo raval,

tots et diuen ravalera.

No hi ha xica més templa(d)a

si no és la santanera.

When you pop into the suburb,

all the people say to you suburbial.

There is no women as pretty

as the woman of the saints.

 

Lliguardera la tonta

no té pessetes,

que se les gasta totes

comprant cintetes.

I sa mare li deia

que no jugara,

que el nóvio que tenia

ja no el té ara.

Lliguardeta “the Silly”

has no peseta,

because she spent them

buying strips.

Her mother told

that she musn’t play,

and that her fiancé

has left her.

 

Des de que tu te n’anares

l’hortet ja no s’ha regat,

la bona herba no creix

i el julivert s’ha secat.

When you left

the little vegetable garden hasn’t been irrigated,

the good herb doesn’t grow

and the parsley is dried.

 

Deu i deu que són vint.

Vint i vint, quaranta.

Ara ton pare pixa,

ta mare canta.

Ara ta mare canta

i ton pare també,

al clamor d’esta casa,

per setze gallets.

Ten and ten make twenty.

Nota: Personalment m’ha paregut una cançó que simbolitza la independència de la filla respecte a una mare que intentava imposar el seu parer i a una societat en què estar fadrina no estava ben vist. Una actitud valenta, sens dubte, la de la filla.
